berry weekends


last Friday ada tetamu datang menginap, membe zaman gonjeng sekolah2 dulu datang tour UK merangkap honeymoon sekali...fuh kelas kau honeymoon tour UK; Wales dgn Scotland semua diorang sapu bersih...Ireland je tak sampai hehe....anyway, sebab Aberdeen ni mana la ada tempat menarik nak bawak so ke fruit picking je lah kita yo....

kalau ada masa lebih maybe boleh naik sampai Inverness dengan Loch Ness, which we all pun tak sampai lagi hihi tapi ada satu hari full je pun nak habiskan masa, dengan Mya yang ala2 demam so malas la nak drive jauh2.

and again ke farm yang sama, Charleton Farm dekat Montrose, about 45mins drive from Aberdeen...sampai je rupanya season baru nak bermula, yang ada strawberries je, gooseberry, raspberry dengan blueberry semua belum berbuah lagi adessss...nasib baik tak gigihkan diri pergi Cairnie Farm yang lagi jauh tu ;P

serius mama dah nembam2..mengharap bulan pose ni dapatla menyelim kembali, ate dah kata magrib pukul 10pm ko kalau tak kurus sikit tak tau la nak cakap apa kan hihi...

besar besar kau....perghh...sedap lak tu

haha asyik masuk mulut je..nomnomnom...semua cedap manis and juicy, kalau dapat gigit yang betul2 sedap tu tutup2 mata kut makan haha...like Odi said, this is how strawberries should taste like, bukan yang masam2 tu =)

ok now dah tahu angle yang boleh nampak selim sket =P

the most favourite thing about this farm for me is le cafe! omaigoddd...sedap2 kut semua makanan, last time datang dah rasa salad dengan sandwich and the famous strawberry tart..semua sedap! kali ni berjaya mempengaruhi Odi untuk mengorder sepuas tekak hahaha...yang ni meringue apa ntah dengan strawberry smoothies ;)

alhamdulillah cuaca hari tu cantik je...orang malaysia datang bawak matahari kut hehe..kalau tak tu manjang hujan setiap hari...so lepas tu bawak diorang amik gamba kat Dunnotar Castle (mano laie khennn), kalau cuaca cantik memang best melepak kat tepi tobing tu enjoy the sea view...

tapi sebab mya dah merajuk sebab keletihan so kitorang lepak makan aiskerim je...bila ntah ada gerai aiskerim nih dulu2 xde pulak, nak summer ni kut tapi memang best la ada tempat nak beli kopi or jajan cam ni sebab orang punya la ramai, semua pelancong dengan photographer cam weols jugak.

oh rasa memang diorang dah upgrade kut, sebab dulu mana ada sing besor2 cam ni....pastu siap ada staff potong rumput sume, memang patut pun sebab tempat ni cantik giler, memang jadi attraction pada tourists..lagipun x yah susah2 turun naik bukit nak masuk castle (or should i say ruined?) dah boleh dapat view cantik amik gambar..lepak je tepi tebing tu, nak lagi feeling kalau ada brader pakai skirt main bagpipes hehe...

lebihan strawberries ada lagi dalam fridge tuh...mya memang dah tak lalu nak makan..balik msia esok tahu la nak appreciate kut hehe...tertengok Victoria Sandwich Cake kat dapur sifu macaroons, Rima Spore teringin lah pulok..satu slice kat John Lewis cafe dekat £3 kut...nak berjalan lagi maleh le pulok...boleh dicubain nih..lagipun kita puasa hari ni haruslah terpengaruh kan kan....

oh lama lagi beb nak berbuka, now baru 1pm, 9 hours to go chaiyok chaiyok...agak2 demotivated tu bawak2 la pegang lelemak kat perut ni ha semangat sket, kurus kurus here i comeeee... haha ;P

what's cookin - Strawberry Cake


what i like best about spring/summer season? its berries time baby! move over sour Spanish strawberries, the best of british berries has arrived ;)

hehe...dah lama x baking kan? rindu sangat nak bereksperimen buat kek...tengok2 resepi telan2 air liur dok cari idea dan tanya selera, kek apa nak buat ye? so to welcome and celebrate summer haruslah buat kek yang berkaitan dengan summer fruits - strawberries to be exact. mya pun tahu beza, bila makan 'emm..this one is not masham mama..it sooo sweet!' satu bungkus tu boleh makan sorang je =)

ternampak resepi ni, from Confections of a Foodie Bride dan tertarik nak buat sebab susah nak jumpa resepi kek strawberi from scratch, mostly mesti ada pakai serbuk jello, instant cake mix and so on but this, the recipe calls for freshly pureed strawberries...yums!

tastewise? - moist, spongy cake but a little too sweet for me, but that maybe due to the fact that i bake half the recipe, so maybe ada silap sana sini sikit kan masa sukat gula...dan rasanya bila buat layer dengan fresh whipped cream dan fresh strawberries in the middle the compliment each other perfectly. but other than that, i really recommended you all to bake this cake. it will make a perfect birthday cake for a little girl, you can whipped the frosting with a little leftover strawberry pureed for a perfect pink birthday cake...who can say no to that? ;)

now, i'm not going to post the recipe here as it will be useful for you to read the recipe yourself, plus ada tips menarik yang i pun baru tahu, on how to get even bake cake - EVERYTIME! and the author also make an experiment on this, just to show you the difference.

if you interested to bake this, a little note about what i did:
- i only bake half the recipe, and use whole eggs instead of 6 egg whites, so for half recipe i used 2 whole eggs.
- for the flour, i used all purpose flour, tepung biasa aje uols, janji ayak betul2 ok.
- for the milk, i used strawberry milk (cilok mya punya hehe) so maybe my cake a little bit on the sweeter side, next time i'll use whole milk as per recipe stated.
- plan ahead and do spare time to washed, hulled, sliced, sprinkle with 1-2 tablespoons sugar and keep the strawberries for about 1 hour or so in room temperature, until nice and juicy. the sugar will draws out all the natural juices, making pureed them a bliss, no need to add water for this.
- to assemble the cake; i layered them with fresh cream and strawberries halves, sky is the limit here, you can use whatever frosting you like, i'm thinking cream cheese frosting for my next project ;)
